Keeping diversity in Manitoba agriculture

It’s an incredible thing when 2 groups from seemingly different ends of the Manitoba Agriculture spectrum can come together.  That’s exactly what happened on Friday April 17th.

3 weeks ago, an informal group of concerned citizens, farmers, restauranteurs, retailers and farmers markets calling themselves the Potato Coalition of Manitoba joined together to voice their concerns with new Peak of the Market regulations for small potato growers in the province.   Friday’s meeting between Peak of the Market and the newly formed Potato Coalition of Manitoba was a resounding success for many concerned stake holders.  Moving forward with a more inclusive vision, Peak of the Market has agreed to re write the exemptions concerning small potato growers , and small root crop producers, with the consultation of the Potato Coalition of Manitoba.  We are certain that this new inclusive approach that Peak of the Market has taken will strengthen the Agricultural industry in the province.
